5GAA & 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA) renew Memorandum of Understanding
The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) and the 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reinforcing their long-standing collaboration for 5G infrastructure deployment for mobility.
“This renewed agreement strengthens the bridge between current 5G deployment and the evolution towards 6G, ensuring that future networks are shaped by the needs of the automotive and mobility ecosystem from the outset. Working closely with 6G‑IA allows us to align innovation, trials, and standardisation with real deployment priorities,” said Christof Schmidt, Director General of the 5GAA.
“This agreement between the 5G Automotive Association and the 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association is vital to ensure that we maximise the impact of 5G technology and ensure that 6G technology is developed in a manner that takes the requirements of the automotive industry into account”, said Dr Colin Willcock, Chairman of the 6G-IA.

5GAA Online Session: Securing North American V2X Deployments: Introducing the 5GAA SCMS Certificate Policy
The 5G Automotive Association is organising the online session “Securing North American V2X Deployments: Introducing the 5GAA SCMS Certificate Policy”.
- Date & Time: Tuesday, 9 September 2025
- Location: 8:00 am PT / 11:00 am EDT / 5:00 pm CEST
As connected vehicle and smart transportation deployments begin to take shape across the US and Canada, trust and security in C-V2X communications are becoming foundational to enabling a wide range of applications.
Experts from 5GAA, BMW Group, Qualcomm, and Microsec V2X PKI Inc. are joining this online session to present:
- How C-V2X communications can enhance road safety, support connected and automated mobility, and enable future transportation services, including the critical role of security in ensuring these capabilities function.
- The technical architecture and operational model of SCMS Certificate Policy, and how the policy enables secure V2I message exchange across public and private deployments, facilitates cross-OEM interoperability, and fosters a competitive ecosystem of SCMS providers and vehicle platforms.
If you are interested, you can register here.
Meet the Speakers
- Joachim Göthel, Senior Manager E/E-Systems & 5G Alliance, BMW Group, & Founding Board Member, 5GAA
- William Whyte, Senior Director, Technical Standards, Qualcomm
- Peter Lorinczy, Technical Solutions Lead, Microsec V2X PKI Inc.
Agenda
- Opening Remarks: BMW Perspective on V2X Momentum and Security Foundations (Joachim Göthel)
- Technical Deep Dive: SCMS Certificate Policy, Interoperability and Ecosystem Enablement (William Whyte & Peter Lorinczy)
- Q&A
Motivations for C-V2X include augmenting automated vehicles with non-line-of-sight awareness and cooperative intention sharing, supporting V2X-based tolling over the 5.9 GHz ITS spectrum, enhancing road safety and protection of vulnerable road users (VRUs), and improving traffic efficiency. V2X messages—such as Basic Safety Messages (BSMs), Signal Phase and Timing (SPaT), and Cooperative Perception Messages (CPMs)—require robust security to ensure message integrity and authenticity.
These messages unlock a variety of use cases that depend on trusted and anonymous communications between vehicles, infrastructure, and other road users.
To support these needs, 5GAA has released its SCMS Certificate Policy, a set of rules tailored to the North American ecosystem. Developed by 5GAA Working Group 7 on Cybersecurity, the policy reflects input from automakers, suppliers, semiconductor leaders, PKI providers, telecom infrastructure vendors, and broader industry stakeholders—including feedback from transportation agencies and industry organisations.
Whether you are a policymaker, technology developer, or part of the transportation ecosystem, this is your opportunity to connect with these industry leaders and better understand the security foundations of North American C-V2X deployments.

5GAA Online Session: Introducing a Framework for Dynamic Trustworthiness Assessment in Cooperative and Automated Vehicles
The 5G Automotive Association is organising the online session “Introducing a Framework for Dynamic Trustworthiness Assessment in Cooperative and Automated Vehicles”.
- Date & Time: Thursday, 2 October 2025, 16:00 – 17:00 CEST
- Location: Microsoft Teams Webinar (Online)
Connected and Automated Vehicles are expected to make critical decisions based on data from external sources, yet current approaches to security and safety do not address a fundamental question: How much can the content of this data be trusted?
This Online Session will present 5GAA’s new White Paper “A Framework for Dynamic Trustworthiness Assessment in Cooperative and Automated Vehicles“, which tackles this largely unsolved problem by introducing a dynamic trust assessment framework centred on Actual Trustworthiness Level and Required Trustworthiness Level – metrics that quantify the residual uncertainty about whether external data or system behavior can be trusted based on available evidence and how much trust is needed to meet the operational and safety requirements of the current context.
Experts from 5GAA, Huawei and DENSO will join this online session to present the content of the White Paper, as well as its methodology and goals.
If you are interested, you can register here.
Meet the Speakers
- Ioannis Krontiris, Senior Research Engineer – Security, Privacy and Trust, Huawei, Trust4CAV 5GAA Work Item Lead
- Alexander Kiening, Technical Manager Security R&D Europe, DENSO
Agenda
- Introduction (16.00 – 16.05)
- Quantifying Trust in Cooperative and Automated Vehicles (16.05 – 16.25)
- Acting on Trust: Setting the bar for taking decisions (16.25 – 16.45)
- Q&A (16.45 – 17.00)
Whether you are a policymaker, researcher, or part of the automotive and mobility ecosystem, this is your chance to engage with industry experts and explore the foundations of dynamic trust assessment in Connected and Automated Vehicles – a crucial step toward ensuring safer, more reliable C-V2X deployments.
