Testing certification in the C-V2X ecosystem
The growth of connected vehicles and infrastructure is becoming apparent throughout the world. C-V2X is constantly evolving, and it is necessary to ensure that all stakeholders (e.g. telecommunication and automotive sectors) are working together to ensure that connected mobility is safer and more efficient. Hence, it is important to ensure that the public and policy-makers trust the technology. 5GAA aims to support regional certification bodies to guarantee safe and reliable intelligent transport systems globally. 5GAA is dedicated to giving the C-V2X ecosystem players a voice in reviewing and developing the certification framework. On top of mandatory regulatory requirements (e.g. Radio Equipment Directive in the EU or FCC rules in the US), a number of organisations offer certification programs based on agreed industry standards which are equally critical to guarantee compliance and ensure interoperability. Such certification programs also facilitate global/regional harmonisation thus helping to reduce testing costs and accelerating time to market.
GCF C-V2X certification program
GCF is a non-profit, global membership-driven organisation that promotes mobile and IoT certification programs for conformity to agreed standards of interoperability. Since 2018, 5GAA has partnered with GCF on a C-V2X certification programme for the radio layer – with an initial focus on LTE PC5 Side Link in Mode 4, upon which global application and services can be built. The program was launched in July 2021. The program allows companies and organisations to certify their C-V2X capable products for short-range functionality, allowing direct communications between V2V and V2I equipment. The program, based on lab conformance testing, is available to both GCF members and non-members. GCF and 5GAA members continue to collaborate within the Connected Vehicles Work Stream (CVWS) to develop and manage the C-V2X Certification Program. OmniAir Connected Vehicle Certification
OmniAir Consortium is a leading industry association based in the USA which promotes interoperability and certification for connected vehicles, ITS, and transportation payment systems. Their members include public agencies, private companies, research institutions, and independent test labs. OmniAir aims to provide the opportunity to work collaboratively to develop and determine the requirements for national certification programs. Since 2019, 5GAA has partnered with OmniAir to collaborate on conformance assessment and interoperability testing of C-V2X devices and solutions. A “Joint Steering Committee” was established in 2022 between the two partner organizations to help advance cooperation on technical matters and projects of interest to both organizations (i.e., testing and certification). OmniAir’s Connected Vehicle Certification program allows members to measure compliance and ensure interoperability among products and services that support OmniAir’s specifications. Companies completing the certification may display the OmniAir® Certified logo to demonstrate to consumers, customers and partners that they have created a high-quality, interoperable device that is known to work with other OmniAir-certified devices. /p>

5GAA Conference and C-V2X Showcases in Berlin
The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) will be hosting a conference and C-V2X technology demonstrations on 24 October in Berlin, Germany.
The conference , ‘Scaling up connected mobility: What’s next for Germany and Europe?’ will discuss the latest developments in connected mobility policy and technology. Find the agenda here.
The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) will host a technology demonstration event in Berlin on 24 October, showcasing the potential of Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology to redefine mobility across Europe. The event will take place with 5GAA members, leaders from the automotive, telecommunications and technology sectors; it will feature over 10 indoor and outdoor demonstrations that address both critical safety and advanced applications. White Paper: Safety Treatment in V2X Applications, Phase 2
As automated driving increasingly relies on connectivity, ensuring trusted information exchange is critical for functional safety. This 5GAA whitepaper on Safety Treatment in Connected and Automated Driving (STiCAD II) builds on the initial STiCAD I guidelines, addressing open challenges in applying safety treatment to V2X-enabled automated driving functions. It explores use cases requiring safety treatment, introduces the concept of mutual trust in V2X communications, and examines potential standardisation contributions from 5GAA.

Online Session – Enhancing Public Trust: Misbehaviour Detection and Remediation in V2X Networks
The 5G Automotive Association is pleased to invite you to our online session, “Enhancing Public Trust: Misbehaviour Detection and Remediation in V2X Networks“.
Misbehaviour detection in connected vehicles refers to the identification of transmitted data which is either wilfully or inadvertently incorrect within the V2X network. 5GAA previously hosted an online session on the intricacies of the Misbehaviour Management System. This upcoming session explores the most recent work done on the operational aspects of misbehaviour detection, specifically the remediation options that will better protect the public and their confidence in V2X.
Technical Report: Safety Treatment in Connected and Automated Driving Functions, Phase 2
The 5GAA Technical Report on Safety Treatment in Connected and Automated Driving (STiCAD II) documents the latest findings on enhancing safety in V2X-enabled automated driving. Building on the first STiCAD work item, this report explores additional use cases requiring safety treatment, such as sensor sharing and automated valet parking, and introduces a simplified functional safety analysis approach. A key focus is the mutual trust concept, covering technical, organisational, and certification aspects essential for reliable V2X communication. The report also examines potential standardisation contributions and network reliability enhancements.

Automated Valet Parking Technology Assessment and Use Case Implementation Description

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), roughly 1.25 million road traffic fatalities worldwide in 2013, with another 20–50 million injured or disabled through traffic accidents. Vehicles sharing information make transportation safer, greener, and more enjoyable are at our doorstep. The technologies associated with this concept are collectively known as Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS). The impact on road safety alone is sufficiently significant to make C-ITS a priority.

ITS World Congress Dubai 2024
ITS World Congress Dubai is a major event in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems. With more than 20,000 attendees, the event will include plenary sessions, technical sessions, exhibitions, and demonstrations showcasing the leading technological innovations.
The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) is proud to take part in this event, which brings together key actors of the mobility ecosystem. In this edition, 5GAA will be holding 4 sessions on smart mobility:
– Monday 16 September, from 09:00 to 10:30 am: 5G Driving Mobility;
– Monday 16 September, from 3:15 to 4:45 pm: Sustainability and equity in transport through AI and connectivity;
– Wednesday 18 September, from 4 to 5:30 pm: PDI and communication developments as CCAM enablers;
