5GAA Showcases Connected Mobility Technologies to Support Safer Roads and Future Transportation in India
NEW DELHI, 29 October 2026 – With one of the world’s largest and most diverse road networks, India faces two challenges: improving road safety and meeting growing mobility demands. The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) brought policymakers, vehicle manufacturers, telecom operators and technology providers together in New Delhi to demonstrate C-V2X technologies that can help vehicles communicate in real time, prevent accidents and improve traffic efficiency.
The conference “Connecting India for Safer Roads: Advancing Mobility for All” took place at a crucial moment for India’s mobility ecosystem. Indeed, the Indian government has made concrete steps toward introducing mandatory V2V communications across all vehicle categories, including trucks, vans, passenger cars, motorbikes and mopeds. The conference actively engaged with Indian authorities and industry to expose the 5GAA response to TRAI on V2X spectrum allocation and the comments to the MoRTH V2V notification.
Through 5GAA’s response to TRAI, the Association is advocating for the allocation of the 5.9 GHz band for C-V2X, license-exempt deployment models, globally harmonised standards, and interoperability C-V2X solutions.
5GAA proposed a phased implementation approach, taking into account the finalisation of the AIS-230 standard. Indeed, as these regulatory developments are closely linked to the ongoing development of AIS-230, 5GAA has assessed the specifications and identified areas requiring clarification or further development, including certification, testing, interoperability, security frameworks, and priority Use Cases.
“India is emerging as one of the most exciting markets for connected mobility. As the country advances, today’s demonstrations highlighted how 5GAA members are delivering practical solutions that can support safer, smarter and more connected mobility in India,” said Christoph Voigt, Chairman of 5GAA.
The event featured technology demonstrations from 5GAA members Anritsu, Bosch, HARMAN, Keysight Technologies, Nokia, Qualcomm, Rohde & Schwarz, Rolling Wireless, Tata Motors and Valeo.
The demonstrations showed how connected vehicles can exchange real-time information about road hazards, traffic conditions and vulnerable road users, while supporting advanced driver assistance systems, software-defined vehicles and next-generation connectivity services.
The demonstrations showcased by members provide a clear practical illustration of how the industry is gearing up to respond to the forthcoming India V2V mandate set to enter into full force by October 2028. The event also reinforced the importance of continued collaboration between government and industry to accelerate large-scale deployment to maximise the societal benefits of connected mobility.

The event comes as the European Commission’s proposal on the future of the 2 GHz Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) band is in co-decision, ahead of the expiry of current authorisations in May 2027.
During the event, IDATE will present the findings of its White Paper, based on interviews with mobile operators, satellite players, chipset vendors and institutions across Europe. The paper examines device readiness, bandwidth scenarios, integration models with mobile networks and expected service availability timelines. The presentation will be followed by a discussion bringing together representatives from EU institutions, regulators and industry.
From 15:55 to 16:05, Maxime Flament will deliver the presentation “Meeting Users’ Needs for Seamless Connectivity and Road Safety – Insights from European Drivers”. His contribution will explore the role of Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) and satellite-enabled connectivity in meeting European drivers’ expectations for seamless connectivity and supporting road safety.
Further information on the event is available on the IDATE website.
World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference
5GAA will be represented at World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference (WICV) 2026, taking place in Beijing from 21 to 23 October 2026, by Maxime Flament, CTO of 5GAA.
On Friday, 23 October, at 13:30 (CST) Maxime Flament will participate in the side event “Exploring Innovative Practices in Integrated Vehicular Communications”, where he will deliver the presentation “Connected Intelligence Without Borders: Scaling ICV services through V2X, NTN and global connectivity.”
His contribution will focus on how V2X, Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) and global connectivity can support the deployment and scalability of intelligent connected vehicle services across markets, highlighting the importance of interoperability and global collaboration.
Further information on the event is available on the event website.

Connectivity and V2X for Highly Automated Vehicles
The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) has published Connectivity and V2X for Highly Automated Vehicles, a position paper examining the role of connectivity and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technologies in supporting the deployment and operation of highly automated vehicles.
As automated mobility moves from pilot projects to commercial operations, connectivity is becoming an increasingly important enabler of safe, efficient, and scalable transport services.
While automated vehicles rely on onboard sensors for core driving functions, the paper highlights how network and direct Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications can enhance fleet operations, enable access to trusted external information, and support interoperability across different vehicles, networks, and regions. It also outlines future connectivity requirements and recommends greater collaboration between the automotive, telecommunications, and policymaking communities.
Read the paper to discover how connectivity can help enable the next generation of automated mobility services.
