In partnership with 5GAA and with the support of the European Commission and European Free Trade Association, DEKRA is hosting the 4th ETSI C-V2X Plugtests™ event at Parque Tecnológico in Málaga, Spain from 10-13 September.
During the week, ETSI and DEKRA will enable On-Board-Units (OBUs), Roadside-Units (RSUs) and Public Key Infrastructure (PKIs) vendors to run interoperability test sessions to assess the level of interoperability of their implementation and validate the understanding of the standards. This edition of the Plugtests will focus on direct communication between devices using ETSI TC ITS Release 2 standards, including Collective Perception Services (CPS) and Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs).
5GAA will organise a half-day workshop on 11 September to bring together some key players in the C-V2X ecosystem and discuss the impact of ETSI Release 2 standards. The speakers will provide insights on the future of C-V2X for the automotive industries, while the workshop’s technical agenda will demonstrate progress made on 5G-V2X Direct, ETSI Release 2 messages and security.

In January 2024, 5GAA published the white paper “Road Traffic Operation in a Digital Age: A Holistic Cross-Stakeholder Approach”. The white paper proposes a transformative approach for automotive stakeholders, emphasising a scalable digital data exchange and a federated architecture to manage road traffic information efficiently. It outlines a data sharing and deployment architecture for road traffic management information in a digital twin structure.
This white paper has now been complemented with two Technical Reports (TRs), providing additional technical details, deployment options, reference implementations and business aspects. The online session will provide valuable insights into both reports.
A 5GAA online session on the V2N2X topic and reports took place on 18 June 2024. The recording of the online session can be accessed here. The slides of the presentation can be accessed here.
On Thursday, 6 February, the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) will host its highly anticipated conference “US V2X Vision: Bridging Gaps and Accelerating Deployment in the US,” bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss the future of connected transportation in the United States.
Date: February 6, 2025
Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (EST)

Maxime also had the chance to meet with 5GAA members exhibiting their innovative 5G-V2X solutions at the event.
The ADAS and Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo is one of the world’s biggest conferences focused on ADAS and assisted driving and is not to be missed for anyone with an interest in connectivity and connected mobility.
This updated document series from the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) provides a comprehensive framework for defining and analysing C-V2X use cases and their associated Service Level Requirements (SLRs). It builds upon previous work, refining methodologies for describing use case scenarios, considering factors like road environments and involved actors.
Published in three volumes, each of them includes a curated set of C-V2X use cases, respectively detailed with specific SLRs. These use cases serve as a valuable resource for 5GAA work groups, guiding the development of C-V2X solutions, informing standardisation efforts, and supporting the creation of robust business cases for deployment.
With multiple engagement platforms and tailored content, US IOOs and the overall road infrastructure operators community can learn more about the superior safety benefits of C-V2X technology and engage with a growing ecosystem of telecom providers, chipset makers, and auto OEMs to identify synergies, opportunities, and potential business models to accelerate and streamline deployment of this life-saving technology.
Membership will allow 5GAA, road operators community to continue the productive conversations initiated e.g. with US IOOs during the C-V2X Workshop for North American Transportation Planning and North American Road Operators in Washington D.C (April 2018), where 5GAA presented a vision for a connected future (here) or European National Road Administrations (NRAs) and road infrastructure operators during a similar C-V2X Workshop and Demonstration in Paris, France (July 2018).

Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything, or C-V2X, is an umbrella term that encompasses all 3GPP V2X technologies, including both direct (PC5) and mobile network communications (Uu). In many cases, both direct and network modes of C-V2X can be used for the same or similar automotive and Intelligent Transport System (ITS) applications, yet with different service characteristics. However, there are fundamental differences when it comes to the architecture and realisation of different Use Cases applying mobile network vs. direct, short-range, communications. This leads to different ways of handling security, privacy, and how to ensure data quality – the fundamental requirements of every ITS service – when using C-V2X mobile network communication or direct communication. This is already reflected in other organisations such as ITS America.
This 5GAA paper provides an overview of how security, privacy, and data quality are addressed for C-V2X using mobile network and backend communications, also known as Vehicle-to-Network-to-Everything (V2N2X) solutions.
The paper was originally published in December 2024. The current downloadable version is the updated edition, released on 3 June 2025. 5GAA remains committed to keeping all its publications accurate and up to date.
5G technologies are the next generation of wireless networks. It is key to transmitting more extensive amounts of data more reliably, with lower latency and at faster speeds than ever before.
C-V2X is the next generation telematics that can support new automotive deployments and build a new transportation ecosystem for the future.
The C-V2X technology is already available but to support the autonomous vehicles of tomorrow, the technology must evolve to meet more demanding safety requirements. 5G will facilitate this evolution. Its extreme throughput, low latency, and enhanced reliability will allow vehicles to share rich, real-time data, supporting fully autonomous driving experiences.
The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) is shaping the path to 5G by supporting C-V2X, as well as working to deliver innovations in on-device intelligence and integration in connected vehicles. The 5GAA is confident that a technically superior standards-based cost-effective and scalable access technology from the cellular industry will carry C-ITS and Connected Vehicle applications well into the 5G era and beyond.
Under its current Work Programme, 5GAA seeks to leverage today and tomorrow’s innovative C-V2X solutions
for a safer, greener and more efficient transportation system, benefiting all road users.
Intersections are a hotspot for traffic fatalities and injuries globally, with nearly a quarter of U.S. traffic fatalities and half of all injuries occurring in these high-risk areas. To address this, the 5GAA has developed a technical report on the ‘InterSafe Service,’ an approach leveraging infrastructure sensor-sharing to increase intersection safety for all road users, especially Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) like pedestrians and cyclists.
This report explores key use cases, system requirements, and deployment options for integrating Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication technologies with infrastructure sensors. It outlines a framework for developing interoperable, standardised solutions that can operate efficiently within existing Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) spectrums. Crucially, the service is designed to deliver safety benefits even during the early stages of V2X adoption, when only a fraction of vehicles are equipped with these technologies.
The document also provides recommendations for global standards organisations, such as SAE International and ETSI, to expedite the development of system-level profiles. By fostering collaboration across stakeholders, the InterSafe Service has the potential to significantly reduce intersection-related incidents and accelerate the adoption of life-saving technologies worldwide.
