The 5G Automotive Association is organising the online session “Integrated sensing and communication for automotive: Use cases & Technology Features”.…
ITS World Congress Dubai is a major event in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems. With more than 20,000 attendees, the event will include plenary sessions, technical sessions, exhibitions, and demonstrations showcasing the leading technological innovations.
The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) is proud to take part in this event, which brings together key actors of the mobility ecosystem. In this edition, 5GAA will be holding 4 sessions on smart mobility:
– Monday 16 September, from 09:00 to 10:30 am: 5G Driving Mobility;
– Monday 16 September, from 3:15 to 4:45 pm: Sustainability and equity in transport through AI and connectivity;
– Wednesday 18 September, from 4 to 5:30 pm: PDI and communication developments as CCAM enablers;
– Thursday 19 September, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm: Progress on Space Satellite Technology for ADAS.
5GAA will be represented at ITS WC 2024 by the association’s CTO, Maxime Flament. If you would like to book a meeting with Maxime, please contact liaison@5gaa.org.
To support the transportation community in navigating the FCC’s Second Report and Order on the 5.9 GHz band, 5GAA has published a comprehensive FAQ document. This resource provides detailed guidance on the transition to Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology and the final operational rules by outlining key regulatory changes, technical specifications, and compliance timelines—addressing topics such as equipment authorization, licensing requirements for Onboard Units (OBUs) and Roadside Units (RSUs) and channelization standards. The document also includes step-by-step appendices for obtaining equipment authorization and RSU licensing.
Access the FAQ here to gain a thorough understanding of the new regulations and their impact on Intelligent Transportation Systems
In partnership with 5GAA and with the support of the European Commission and European Free Trade Association, DEKRA is hosting the 4th ETSI C-V2X Plugtests™ event at Parque Tecnológico in Málaga, Spain from 10-13 September.
During the week, ETSI and DEKRA will enable On-Board-Units (OBUs), Roadside-Units (RSUs) and Public Key Infrastructure (PKIs) vendors to run interoperability test sessions to assess the level of interoperability of their implementation and validate the understanding of the standards. This edition of the Plugtests will focus on direct communication between devices using ETSI TC ITS Release 2 standards, including Collective Perception Services (CPS) and Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs).
5GAA will organise a half-day workshop on 11 September to bring together some key players in the C-V2X ecosystem and discuss the impact of ETSI Release 2 standards. The speakers will provide insights on the future of C-V2X for the automotive industries, while the workshop’s technical agenda will demonstrate progress made on 5G-V2X Direct, ETSI Release 2 messages and security.

The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) is pleased to support a joint demonstration of Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and several 5GAA members.
The event will take place on February 5-6 at the Federal Highway Administration’s Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
In partnership with 5GAA members Audi, Verizon and Autotalks, these live demonstrations will underscore the potential of C-V2X technology to protect all road users, improve traffic flow, and create a more unified transportation system. Participants will also witness how C-V2X direct and mobile network communications complement each other, with the potential to enable 360° awareness.
This marks the first dedicated event of its kind and reaffirms the commitment from industry to support the USDOT in deploying lifesaving V2X technologies. The insights gathered from these demonstrations, as well as from 5GAA’s conference and concurrent roundtables, will inform the path forward for nationwide deployment.
5GAA welcomes this opportunity to work alongside USDOT and key stakeholders, laying the groundwork for continued collaboration to drive innovation and accelerate mass-market adoption of C-V2X for safer, smarter mobility across the United States.
In January 2024, 5GAA published the white paper “Road Traffic Operation in a Digital Age: A Holistic Cross-Stakeholder Approach”. The white paper proposes a transformative approach for automotive stakeholders, emphasising a scalable digital data exchange and a federated architecture to manage road traffic information efficiently. It outlines a data sharing and deployment architecture for road traffic management information in a digital twin structure.
This white paper has now been complemented with two Technical Reports (TRs), providing additional technical details, deployment options, reference implementations and business aspects. The online session will provide valuable insights into both reports.
A 5GAA online session on the V2N2X topic and reports took place on 18 June 2024. The recording of the online session can be accessed here. The slides of the presentation can be accessed here.
With multiple engagement platforms and tailored content, US IOOs and the overall road infrastructure operators community can learn more about the superior safety benefits of C-V2X technology and engage with a growing ecosystem of telecom providers, chipset makers, and auto OEMs to identify synergies, opportunities, and potential business models to accelerate and streamline deployment of this life-saving technology.
Membership will allow 5GAA, road operators community to continue the productive conversations initiated e.g. with US IOOs during the C-V2X Workshop for North American Transportation Planning and North American Road Operators in Washington D.C (April 2018), where 5GAA presented a vision for a connected future (here) or European National Road Administrations (NRAs) and road infrastructure operators during a similar C-V2X Workshop and Demonstration in Paris, France (July 2018).
