5GAA Online Session on the Evaluation of Radio-Based Positioning Enhancements for Automotive Use Cases
The 5G Automotive Association is pleased to invite you to our online session on the “Evaluation of Radio-Based Positioning Enhancements for Automotive Use Cases.”
In anticipation of the forthcoming release of a technical report on the Evaluation of Radio-Based Positioning Enhancements for Automotive Use Cases (EPOS) Work Item, the 5G Automotive Association is hosting an online session on Wednesday, 4 October, from 4:00 to 5:00 PM (CEST). The session will be led by Maximilian Stark (Bosch), Berthold Panzner (Nokia), Kerry Glover (Qorvo) and Jaeho Hwang (LGE). As the leading contributors to this publication, they will present the highlights of the EPOS technical report on the potential role of radio-based positioning technologies to support or enable automotive use cases with demanding positioning accuracy constraints.
Walkthrough of 5GAA’s Technical Report Automated Valet Parking Technology Assesment
During this Online Session, 5GAA delegates from Autotalks, BMW, Ericsson, Jember, and Verizon will walk through the 5GAA Technical Report on Automated Valet Parking (AVP). Published in May, the Report presents the results of the 5GAA Work Items Use Case Implementation Description Phase II (UCID II) and AVP using solutions based on cellular public networks (PN), Standalone Non-Public Networks (SNPN) and short-range PC5 Direct Communication technologies.
Evolution of Vehicular Communication Systems Beyond 5G
In recent years, 5G communication standards have started systematically addressing the wireless communication requirements of vertical industries such as the automotive sector.
The development of 5G communications systems for vehicular use cases, referred to as 5G-V2X, has enabled several automotive services that significantly improve the level of safety, efficiency and comfort experienced by traffic participants. In this context, joint efforts from stakeholders in telecommunications and transportation play an essential role in making these services a reality.
The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA), a cross-industry organisation, has over the past five years devoted significant time and effort into better understanding the use cases and requirements for developing technical solutions, carrying out trials, building business models and market strategies, and fostering multi-industry consensus among relevant communication standards organisations.
Such an endeavour is bringing end-to-end mobility solutions based on common understanding and setting the stage to support their smooth rollout in several regions.

5GAA Welcomes the Most Recent FCC Action to Permit C-V2X Deployments in Additional US Jurisdictions
The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) welcomes the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) decision to authorize initial deployments of Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (“C-V2X”) technology in the 5.9 GHz band to 17 entities, including 12 State Departments of Transportation (DOTs), Macomb County, City and County of Denver and to the University of Michigan.
“We have been eagerly waiting for this second FCC action to grant these 17 entities permission to deploy life-saving C-V2X technology in the United States, including the University of Michigan, which is also one of our members,” said John F. Kwant, Executive Director, Americas, for 5GAA. “This action extends the geographical jurisdiction for C-V2X deployment and represents a key milestone to achieve widespread deployment of this state-of-the-art vehicle safety technology.”
In December 2021, a group of automakers, state departments of transportation, and equipment manufacturers jointly filed a Waiver Request asking the FCC to waive its 5.9 GHz band rules to permit them to immediately deploy C-V2X technology. Following this joint filing, more than 17 entities requested waivers under the same conditions.
