Enhanced Positioning Accuracyand Coherent SituationalAwareness by Connected Sensorsand Positioning as a Service

The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) is proud to release a new Technical Report titled “Enhanced Positioning Accuracy and Coherent Situational Awareness by Connected Sensors and Positioning as a Service.” The report provides an overview of positioning technologies for Connected Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) and explores how complementary positioning solutions can work together to enhance accuracy and reliability.

Developed under the ConSens (Connected Sensors) Work Item, the report examines how cooperative information exchange between vehicles, networks, and infrastructure can enable new and improved localization techniques. It introduces a new service concept allowing traffic participants to request positioning improvement services from the 5G network and infrastructure, described in conjunction with a digital twin approach for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The report also presents implementation examples and assesses potential business models for such services.
